Aliwan Fiesta: Hermosa Festival of Zamboanga City

      The  Zamboanga Hermosa Festival or popularly known as Fiesta Pilar a month-long festival held each year in Zamboanga City. It is one of the oldest festival in the country and the most awaited event in the region.



     The Festival is being held in honor of the miraculous image of Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of Zamboanga City. The people of Zamboanga  fervently believe that the lady has served as their unifying cultural and historical symbol.

     Pulang-Angui Festival is an annual celebration in Polangui, Albay. The festival is held during the month of June. During this time, tourists visit the town as PolangueƱos optimistically await and generously prepare for the month-long celebration as the festivities feature various religious, cultural, social and sports activities that captures the delight, excitement and imagination of the people and visitors during the occasion.

Ibalong Festival 2011 Schedule

       Ibalong is a week-long festivity that is celebrated in Legazpi City. This is a celebration depicting Bicol's early beginnings as portrayed in the "Ibalong" epic that tells of super heroes HandiongBatlog and Oryol, villains and wild animals that roamed in the ancient times. Revelers parade on the streets wearing masks of these heroes and villains. There are also other festival activities that include tours, trade fairs, exhibits and beauty pageants.







      Effective this year 2011, Ibalong Festival will be celebrated on August under the Resolution No. 0052-2011, a resolution changing the date of the Ibalong celebration from October to August.

Visita Iglesia: Tayabas Church in Tayabas, Quezon Province


     Basilica Minore de San Miguel Arcangel (Minor Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel) is located in Tayabas, Quezon Province. This basilica is considered the longest Spanish colonial church in the country.

      It was built by the Franciscan Friars in 1585 on indigenous materials. It was again repaired in 1590 under Sn. Pedro Bautista.





      In 1600 a church made of brick was built but it was destroyed by the 1743 earthquake. In a few years, the church was again rebuilt into a bigger one. 




The church was conferred as a minor basilica in October 18, 1988.
