Gayon Bicol: Ibalong Festival of Legazpi City

9th Gayon Bicol Festival of Festivals sa Magayon

Legazpi City, Albay

Ibalong is a week-long festivity that is celebrated in Legazpi City. This is a celebration depicting Bicol's early beginnings as portrayed in the "Ibalong" epic that tells of super heroes Handiong, Batlog and Oryol, villains and wild animals that roamed in the ancient times. Revelers parade on the streets wearing masks of these heroes and villains. There are also other festival activities that include tours, trade fairs, exhibits and beauty pageants.

Effective this year 2011, Ibalong Festival will be celebrated on August under the Resolution No. 0052-2011, a resolution changing the date of the Ibalong celebration from October to August.

The Tribu Himag-Ulaw of Placer, Masbate was adjudged as the Grand Champion of the just concluded 9th Gayon Bicol Festival of Festivals last April 29 in Legazpi City.

Other winners in the 9th Gayon Bicol Festival of Festivals were Sosogon Festival of Sorsogon City, 1st Runner up; Pinyasan Festival of Daet, Camarines Norte, 2nd Runner up.

Also for the Best Moving Choreography and Best in Costume, Sosogon Festival of Sorsogon City.
