Caloocan City
The city is historically significant because it was the center of activities for the Katipunan, the secret militant society that launched the Philippine Revolution during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. It was in a house in Caloocan where secret meetings were held by Andres Bonifacio and his men, and it was within the city's perimeters where the very first armed encounter took place between the Katipunan and the Spaniards.
The word caloocan comes from the Tagalog root word lo-ok; kalook-lookan (or kaloob-looban) means "innermost area". The City borders many other cities such as Quezon City, Manila, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and San Jose Del Monte Bulacan in the north. During the formation of Rizal Province, Caloocan was included in its matrix until 1975.
Bonifacio High Street
The first of its kind in Philippine retail, Bonifacio High Street sets the stage for new encounters along a main street full of diverse cuisine, the latest fashions, event street performances. Its themed zones in eight buildings along twin boulevards celebrate the modern aspects of good living - fashion, health and beauty, home, sports, technology, and special interests - anchored by a 400m x 40m-wide interactive park. The 240-hectare Bonifacio Global City is a project of the Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, a joint venture of Ayala Land and Evergreen Holdings. At its center, Bonifacio High Street redefines the mall experience as a walk in the park.
Potenciano Gregorio Sr. Historical Marker
Potenciano Gregorio, often referred to as Potenciano Gregorio, Sr. was a Bicolano musician. He was the composer of Sarung Banggi (One Evening), the most famous song in the Bikol language.
It is claimed that Potenciano Gregorio composed Sarung Banggi when he was 17 years old. There are different versions as to how he composed this song. Hilario Balilo, the former town mayor stated that the composer wrote the music and lyrics of the song one night after hearing a bird chirping and the leaves rustling. He based this version on information he received from Justo Gregorio, a nephew of Potenciano. Resurrecion Gregorio, a grandson of Potenciano however claimed that the song was written during the 1897 eruption of Mayon volcano and initially the composer wanted to dedicate the song to his then fiancée Dominga Duran whom he later married.
