Palace in the Sky , the unfinished mansion of former President Ferdinand Marcos, has been converted and renamed the People's Park in the Sky . Without a doubt this offers the most speculator view of Taal volcano, no if, ands or buts about it!

The Palace in the Sky was built for the official state visit of the former US President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan, though the Reagan's cancelled their trip due to the general unrest and Marcos' problems at the time. Looking at the shell of the palace today, it's hard to imagine the opulence and splendor it enjoyed during its heyday. Hollywood stars like George Hamilton (seen with Imedla Marcos in the photograph below,) entertained the Marcos' and their cronies with such ostentatious and fragrant displays of wasting money, it became one of the final nails in the Marcos' political coffin. They must have had some wild and outrageous parties there!

The major attraction of Vigan is its mestizo district which is filled with Spanish-style houses that evoke a bygone era when its people lived prosperously because of the Manila-Acapulco maritime trade.
For visitors who want to experience being transporte...d back to this period in Philippine Spanish colonial time, a walk or a calesa ride through Vigan’s Calle Crisologo or Mena Crisologo Street is a must.

Pagudpud, Boracay of the North

Pagudpud, Boracay of the North

The town is located at the northern tip of the province of Ilocos Norte and it has a land area of 21 hectares. It has a coastline of 39.60 km. In the north is the forest of Cagayan Valley and in the east, are the tall trees of the Cordillera Mountain. In the south is Bulu River and in the west is the China Sea.

Pagudpud was formerly a barrio of Bangui but because of the change of time, it is now independent from its mother town through an Executive Order No. 13 of the late President Ramon Magsaysay. Its name was taken from a tale handed down by the leaders to the younger generations which relates thus; a group of Tagalog speaking peddlers selling the wares rested under a shady tree. They said that they were already tired. One of them said, “Pagud na pagud na ako. Pudpud na rin ang sapatos ko.” It happened that a farmer nearby overheard the conversation between the two of them. Deducing from what they heard they thought that the name of the place was Pagudpud. Since then the place carried on its name as Pagudpud.
