University of Sto. Tomas


      The University of Santo Tomas, is a private Roman Catholic university run by the Order of Preachers in Manila. 

      Founded on April 28, 1611 by Archbishop of Manila Miguel de Benavides, it has the oldest extant university charter in the Philippines and in Asia.  



      As a Pontifical University in Asia, UST is the only university to have been visited by two popes three times: once by Pope Paul VI on Nov. 28, 1970, and twice by Pope John Paul II on Feb. 18, 1981 and January 13, 1995.

Gayon Bicol: Tabak Festival of Tabaco City

     Tabak Festival is a week-long activity in Tabaco City, Albay, held in time with the city's founding anniversary. 






     The festival derived its name from a local word "Tabak", meaning bolo, where the name of the City (Tabaco) was taken from.







     The street presentation depicting the city’s legend, trade fairs of the growing cutlery industry, woodcraft and pili, colorful parades and the Mutya ng Tabak  highlights the event.

     The Himag-Ulaw is an annual festival held in Placer, Masbate. It is a celebration of praise and thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest in farming or good catch in fishing expressed through various forms of activities like street dancing, beauty competition, games and contests, food fairs, among others.




     The Tribu Himag-Ulaw was adjudged as the Grand Champion of the just concluded 9th Gayon Bicol Festival of Festivals last April 29 in Legazpi City.

      Kalimudan Festival or The Festival of All Festivals is an annual event held in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, which is participated in by different tribal groups, is a way of giving thanks for a bumper yield. It highlights the foundation anniversary of Sultan Kudarat. Revellers engage in various activities such as street dance and sports competition during the festival.
